Phoning home
To call the UK dial 0044 then the number you want, but leaving off the first digit. For example 0151 999-6666 in the Uk would be 0044-151-999-6666 from Mallorca. If dialling to the Republic of Ireland it is the same except the international dialling code is 00353.

Posting a letter or postcard
Cost to the UK and Ireland is 75 centimos for a standard letter or postcard. Stamps are available from tobacconists and the post office, which is shown on the map. Only use stamps that carry the words "Correos España" because there are some private companies with their own post boxes and the national postal service will not accept their stamps.

Markets
The nearest markets to Santa Ponsa are in Calvia (Monday am), Galatzo (Tuesday am), Andraitx (Wednesday am). Son Ferrer (Friday) and there is a Saturday morning Car Boot sale on the Son Bugadellas Poligono (Industrial Estate) which is on the way to Calvia Village from Santa Ponsa. There is also a street market in Palma on Saturday morning

Local Golf
There are three golf courses in Santa Ponsa, but as a vistor you are only allowed to play on the Santa Ponsa I course, which is shown on the map. It may look close, but it is a long walk from the entrance to the club house. A round costs 96€ and it is neccessary to pre-book your tee time. The phone number of the course is: (0034) 971 690211. Alternatively you could get Mallorca Golf Holidays to book your tee-times for you - and they will get you a discount.

Duty Allowances
According to HM Customs and Excise brochure Flying Abroad you are allowed to take the following into the UK, provided it is for personal use: 800 cigarettes - 1kg smoking tobacco - 10 litres of spirits - 200 cigars - 110 litres of beer - 20 litres fortfied wine - 400 cigarillos - 90 litres of wine. Getting from the airport
You can go by bus but it means going into Palma and then changing. It can be a lengthy operation depending upon your time of arrival. The easiest way is by taxi and the approximate cost is 38-42€ and it takes around 20 minutes. If there are more than four people in your party there are a couple of larger taxis at the airport but you may have to wait a while. You could always pre book on the internet before you come by using Shuttle Direct. The telephone number of Calvia Taxis, the local firm covering Santa Ponsa is 971 134 700 or 971 680 970. Buses
The following buses run from Santa Ponsa to Palm: the quickest are the 102 and 111 because they are non-stop buses. The 103 goes via Portals Nous (Marineland) and Son Caliu, while the 104 goes via Magalluf, Palma Nova and Portals Nous. The 109 goes to Bendinat via El Toro, Son Ferrer, Magalluf and Palma Nova. Going the other way the 102, 103, 104 and 109 all go to Paguera. The 102 also goes on to Andraitx and Port Andraitx. The 111 goes to Galatzo, Calvia, and Es Capdella. Timetables can be found at bus stops but they do say the times are plus or minus 15 minutes - which explains why two buses can come along at once when they are on a 30 minute or less schedule! (Only here in Mallorca could that happen...)

Illness
If you need to visit a doctor we would recommend you first visit a chemist (farmacia) beause they are well qualified. But if you still have to visit a doctor, there are many private doctors in town - a visit will cost you between 75-80 € - which you can claim back on your insurance. There is also a national health clinic, which is marked on the map. There is also an English-speaking doctor at Centro Medico Santa Ponsa and it is on Gran Via Puig des Teix 6 - opposite the Pionero Hotel. Their telephone number is 971 697 031.
